Applications used

Brief

John Brown Publishing Group is designing an entertaining magazine aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 11. They request the design of a front cover and sample double-page inner spreads.

Development

The challenge with this project was to ensure that the content would entertain the target audience. This required primary research to find out what children enjoyed doing.

It was clear that this audience liked bright colours, puzzles, games, characters, things to do and to make.

A fairground theme was chosen for the magazine; being a place children found engaging and enjoyable. The approach adopted for page layouts were for each page to introduce a feature of a fairground with an associated story / activity.

A focus group of children were asked which magazine title they preferred out of a selection provided. The title Fair Magic proved to be extremely popular throughout the group.

Mr. Wobble, chosen by the focus group, is a character provided on each page as a guide to walk the reader through the magazine.

The final pieces produced include to front covers, a contents page, three double-page spreads, and a flip book.
